Nike Air Griffey Max I – “Cincinnati”
Who doesn’t like the flash of red? Who doesn’t love Ken Griffey, Jr.’s first signature shoe?
Nike married the two after finding inspiration from Griffey’s tenure with the Cincinnati Reds; I crashed the wedding.
My lady picked these up for me at Foot Locker because I was terrified they’d sell out (read: I begged her.). It’s bad enough I wear a common size (11-11.5), but all of the early releases for this colorway on Marquee Sole and Pick Your Shoes sold out well before most people were aware of the shoes’ availability. You only see that kind of hype determination and purchasing speed on the Jordan XI, and some foamposite colorways.
One thing is clear: My woman loves me more than she probably should. She grabbed them for me, even though she hates the color scheme, and gave them to me with a big old smile on her face. (She can answer ‘no’ to the hypothetical question that started this post).
I decided to go the “night photography” route for these glamour shots, just to break the daylight streak that was dominating my latest sneaker pictures. I like the night time, and my Powershot SX30 does a decent job handling low light. The flash doesn’t wash out the pictures, either.
Plus, I like the contrast of bright red against the night sky.
Enjoy.
