I think Blake Griffin dunked on me, too
The following is not only a collection of Blake Griffin’s electrifying dunks. It’s evidence. Blake Griffin collected souls in his rookie year.
As you can see, BasketballVideos99 made the remarkable effort to compile Griffin’s devastating body of dunking work for a hypnotic four-minute video. This rising NBA star, manufactured or not, single-handedly (but sometimes double-clutched) made NBA fans care about dunks outside of All-Star weekend again.
One thing is absolutely clear: Griffin abused the Knicks. His spin and dunk on Danilo Gallinari and authoritative rim throw over Timofey Mozgov will stand in court.
It’s not fair to isolate the Knicks, though. You don’t grab the rim 214 times without humiliating a lot of people.
Since the Clippers offseason is in full effect, this is as good a time as any to initiate the guessing game regarding Griffin’s future. Conspiracy theorists believe the stars are already aligned to make Griffin a star, especially following the theatrics on his contest-winning dunk over a Kia in February.
Some will argue that this rookie campaign will be his peak once defenses learn to seal his lanes to the rim. Others can’t see a kid who averaged a double-double each night regress too severely.
Nonetheless, the dunk crown remains nestled neatly on Griffin’s head.
Griffin’s offseason focus needs to be directed on consistent shooting and a stronger paint presence. He’ll be much better when he uses that jumping ability to notch blocks more consistently. Javale McGee may have lost the dunk contest, but he has a definite one-up on Griffin in the block department.
And it’d be irresponsible to not remind everyone of J.R. Smith’s monstrous slam on the Spurs’ Gary Neal.
Also, DeMar DeRozan deserved better recognition in the dunk contest was robbed.
